Course Description

This course will cover basic machining operations including but not limited to:

  • Lathe and Mill Set Up Operations
  • Workholding for Lathes - installing 3 & 4 jaw chucks along with collets
  • 4 jaw chuck alignment
  • Tailstock alignment
  • Toolholding for Lathes - Dorian tool posts and tailstock attachments
  • Metal removal techniques for lathes
  • Workholding for Mills - Kurt vise alignment, indicating, and edge finding 
  • Tramming heads on a Bridgeport Mill
  • Toolholding for Mills - collets, drill chucks, and end mill holders
  • Metal removal techniques for milling
  • Time for projects

This class will meet face to face with a certified instructor one evening per week, 4 hour duration, for 10 weeks. Students will be given the opportunity to test programs utilizing simulators.

All resources are included. Attendance and performance standards required. Students are encouraged to bring a flash drive to store their work. 

CNC Milling Programming Certification from the National Institute of Metalworking Skills available for an additional cost.

Non-credit training programs are designed by a team of professionals from each respective field, providing you with effective face-to-face and web-based learning programs. Instructors/course mentors are actively involved in your learning experience, responding to any questions or concerns, as well as encouraging and motivating you to succeed. The training programs offered through Workforce Development are not part of academic degree programs.
