0009 - Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A
Course Description
Module 1: Computer based training for Commercial Driver Permit and Entry Level Driver (48 hours). Assists students in obtaining their Commercial Driver Permit and in obtaining all endorsements, General Knowledge, AirBrakes, Combo vehicles, doubles/triples ,tank trucks, HazMat, also covers FMCSA theory topics for ELDT.
Module II: Classroom and Hands-on Laboratory (40 hours). Provides students with knowledge to become an entry level Professional Driver.
Topics: Introduction to trucking, Vehicle Inspection, Control Systems, Vehicle Systems, Basic Control, Shifting, Backing, Coupling and Uncoupling, Sliding 5th Wheels, Preventative Maintenance, Diagnosing & Reporting Malfunctions, Communications, Space Management, Visual Search, Speed Management, Night Driving, Extreme Driving Conditions, Skid Control, Hazard Awareness, Railroad Crossings, Emergency Maneuvers, Accident Procedures, Special Rigs, Handling Cargo, Cargo Documentation,Trip Planning, Hours Of Service, Driving International Routes (Border Crossings), Transportation Security, PR, Personal Health and Safety, Transportation Technology, and Whistleblower Protection.
Module III:(range & road work) (54 hours) Straight Line Backing, Coupling & Uncoupling Alley Dock Sight side Parallel Park Blindside Parallel Park CDL Skills Prep, Basic Vehicle Control systems, Demonstrate Proper Lane Controls and Turning, Proper Start-Up & Braking, Proper Speed and Space Manage
Module IV: CDL Exam & Placement Assistance (8 Hours).
Non-credit training programs are designed by a team of professionals from each respective field, providing you with effective face-to-face and web-based learning programs. Instructors/course mentors are actively involved in your learning experience, responding to any questions or concerns, as well as encouraging and motivating you to succeed. The training programs offered through Workforce Development are not part of academic degree programs.
