Course Description
This CDL Class B to A course is designed to give you the essential skills and knowledge needed to become a qualified entry-level driver for tractor-trailers, heavy duty trucks, dump trucks, and delivery trucks. Whether you’re looking to drive over-the-road or in town, this program will provide you with the fundamentals of commercial vehicle driving. This program is perfect for those with little to no experience.
Module I: Computer based training for Commercial Driver Permit (8 hours). Assists students in obtaining their Commercial Driver Permit and in obtaining all endorsements, General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination Vehicle, Doubles/Triples, Tank Trucks, HazMat.
Module II: Classroom and Hands-on Laboratory (40 hours). Provides students with knowledge to become an entry level Professional Driver. Topics include Introduction to trucking, Vehicle Inspection, Control Systems, Vehicle Systems, Basic Control, Shifting, Backing, Diagnosing & Reporting Malfunctions, Space Management, Visual Search, Speed Management, Communications, Night Driving, Extreme Driving Conditions, Skid Control, Hazard Awareness, Hours Of Service, Transportation Security, and Whistleblower Protection for Professional Drivers.
Module III: (range & road work) (30 hours) Straight Line Backing, Coupling & Uncoupling Alley Dock Sightside Parallel Park Blindside Parallel Park CDL Skills Prep, Basic Vehicle Control systems, Demonstrate Proper Lane Controls and Turning Demonstrate Proper Start-Up and Braking Demonstrate Proper Speed and Space Management.
